Update – Internet Connection Back on Primary Link

Currently, our internet service is using our primary internet link.  External entities with knowledge of the situation are still trying to identify the root cause of last week’s primary internet outage. Once the root cause has been found, they will work on a permanent repair plan.    At any moment our primary link may go down and we will automatically resort to the backup link. Our staff is working on other contingency plans to reduce the impact the backup link has on the campus network. We will notify you, once we receive more information.

Internet Connection Update for 3/27/2015

Our primary Internet connection is still down. The fiber damage in Denver has been identified and plans are being made for repair.

Since we are not sure that this will be resolved by Monday, we will setup an additional backup link using Comcast Internet service on Sunday.

We will continue to run on our backup link(s), which has reduced bandwidth. You may notice slowness, or a lack of responsiveness, while accessing Internet sites or University resources. 

Please do not use Internet bandwidth tests during this outage.  These tests download and upload large amounts of data and will consume much of the available bandwidth.

We will update the campus with any additional information as it becomes available.

Internet Connection Currently on Backup Link

Our primary Internet connection is still down. The outage is due to a fiber issue in Denver but the exact cause has not been determined. We are continuing to run on our backup link, which has reduced bandwidth. You may notice slowness, or a lack of responsiveness, while accessing Internet sites or university resources.

Our primary Internet connection is currently experiencing an outage. During this time, we will be running on a backup link which has reduced bandwidth. You may notice slowness, or a lack of responsiveness, while accessing Internet sites or university resources.

 

Please do not use internet bandwidth tests during this outage.  These test downloads and uploads large amounts of data and will consume much of the available bandwidth.

This Sunday, March 22nd, 2015 from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm we will be performing maintenance on several systems used campus wide.  If you use any of these systems please be sure to save all of your work prior to 8:00 am.

Thank you for your patience as we work to improve IT Services over the break.

This Sunday (3/15/15), from 9:00am to 11:00am, we will be performing maintenance on the campus internet.  During this time, there may be periodic, brief, (<5minutes) outages in Internet service.

This maintenance is the final maintenance in our series of maintenance outages for our upgrade to the campus internet.  Once completed, we will have over 6 times the internet bandwidth (4Gbps) we had previously (670Mbps).  The upgrade will also allow our internet bandwidth to expand to 10Gbps if needed in the future.  IT has been working on this project for over a year.

These outages will affect Internet access from on campus as well as all campus resources from off campus including, but not limited to:

  • Staff/Faculty Email (Exchange)
  • VPN Access to campus
  • All UCCS websites

The following services will be available from off campus:

  • Blackboard
  • Mediasite
  • Student Email (365)
  • My.uccs.edu Portal login and associated applications.

If you are trying to access any UCCS IT resources during this time, please wait a few minutes and try again.

Please use caution while using Blackboard during the hours of 1:00 AM to 4:30 AM on this Friday, March 13. The system will briefly go down during this time period for needed maintenance. Please schedule your work around this time period accordingly.
