Completed-Maintenance on Wireless Network Access 12/30/2014

Tomorrow morning (12/30/2014), the wireless network will be receiving maintenance between the hours of 7:30am and 8:00am. During this time, wireless access will experience intermittent outages. We expect the maintenance to be completed, and wireless to be available, by 8:00am tomorrow morning.

Resolved – Internet Connection Currently on Backup Link

Our primary Internet connection is currently experiencing an outage. During this time, we will be running on a backup link which has reduced bandwidth. You may notice slowness, or a lack of responsiveness, while accessing Internet sites or university resources.

Please do not use internet bandwidth tests during this outage.  These tests download and upload large amounts of data and will consume much of the available bandwidth.

We will update the campus with any additional information as it becomes available.

Update:12/31/2014 5:00pm

The primary internet connection outage we starting experiencing this weekend is still in effect and we are on our backup internet link. Over the last few days we have been experiencing reliability issues over the this link. At this time we have identified  a traffic source that originated from off campus, which has caused these reliability issues. We have been in contact with the traffic provider and they have worked with us to reduce this traffic until the primary link has been restored. At this time the backup link should have increased reliability allowing  better access to UCCS resources.

Until the primary link is restored we will remain on the backup link. It should be noted that this link is not as robust as the primary link which will cause slowness. We do ask that you do not attempt to run an internet speed test. These test do upload and download large amounts of data which consume much of the available bandwidth.

We apologize for any inconvenience this outage may cause. We will update the campus as additional information becomes available.

Blackboard and Mediasite Upgrades: Update

Blackboard will be experiencing two maintenance windows before the end of December.

Mediasite Server Upgrade – December 22nd to December 23rd

  • Mediasite videos within Blackboard and other areas of UCCS sites will be unavailable during the upgrade

Blackboard Upgrade – December 26th  to 28th (Update: Blackboard maintenance is complete as of December 26)

RESOLVED – Network and Server Outage (12/5/2014) Final Update

The file restoration for students with user names beginning with G-I and N-Z was completed late Saturday (12/6/2014) evening. At this time, our most recent backup of information has been restored. This includes any data that was created or altered before Friday at 12:00pm. Data saved between 12:00pm and 1:30pm on Friday is not available for restoration. In order to reduce the chance of corrupting data, some files were not restored directly to student drives. If you find that you are missing changes to a file that was created or altered before 12:00pm on Friday, please visit us at the IT Help Desk or speak with a Lab Advisor. The IT Help Desk is located on the 1st floor of the El Pomar Center. Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:00am to 6:00pm.

At this time access to services affected by the network and sever outage, that began yesterday afternoon, have been restored. The IT Tech Team will continue working on testing and restoration of data as needed. Please reference the list below for restored services.

Restored Services:          

  • Blackboard Logins
  • Mediasite
  • uccs.edu
  • Access to Faculty and Staff Shares
  • Access to Departmental Shares
  • Access to Student Z: Drives
    • Student accounts beginning with A – F and J – L currently have access to all data.
    • Student accounts beginning with G – I and N – Z currently have access to all data that was backup early Friday morning. A more recent back up for Friday at 12:00 being restored. We estimate this data to be available on Sunday morning.

Update 2 – Network and Server Outage (12/5/2014)

Update – Network and Server Outage (12/4/2014)

We would like to thank you for your continued patience and understanding. The IT Tech Team is continuing to work on the network and server outage that began this afternoon. We currently do not have an estimated time of resolution but will update the campus over email and on here as more information becomes available.

This Sunday (12-7-14) from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, there will be multiple portal services unavailable while University Information Systems (UIS) is performing maintenance on several systems. Below is a brief summary of the maintenance schedule.

All portals including, but not limited to the following will be unavailable on December 7th between the hours of 6:00am and 6:00pm:

  • Student, Employee and Faculty Portals (My.uccs.edu)
  • Campus Solutions
  • HR and Finance Systems
  • DARS
  • Singularity (Document Management)

UCCS specific resources will remain available during the outage. These resources include the following:

  • Blackboard
  • Student Email
  • Staff and Faculty Email
  • Library
  • VPN
  • Computer Labs

Multiple UCCS Services Unavailable (12/5/2014)

We are aware of multiple outages to UCCS Services across campus. These services include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Internet/Network access
  • Storage services (Department Shares, Individual Shares for Students, Staff and Faculty)
  • www.uccs.edu
  • Lab and Podium Log ons

Please be aware that our tech team is working on the issue and we will update the campus as more information becomes available.

DNS Flush Instructions

Some users may find that they are unable to access some UCCS services. This may be caused by our switch to a backup link. To fix the issue you may need to flush you DNS.

Flushing DNS instructions:

Windows 7 

  • Press the windows button + R
  • Type cmd in the run box that appears
  • A black box with white text will appear
  • Type the following pressing enter after each line
    • ipconfig /release
    • ipconfig /flushdns
    • ipconfig /renew

Windows 8 

  • Press the windows button + R
  • Type cmd in the run box that appears
  • A black box with white text will appear
  • Type the following pressing enter after each line
    • ipconfig /release
    • ipconfig /flushdns
    • ipconfig /renew

Mac

  • Go to the magnifying glass icon in the top right.
  • Type Terminal and press Enter
  • A white screen with black text will appear
  • Type in the following and press Enter
    • sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
  • The system will prompt you for your password. Please type in your computer password and press enter.
